Saturn 3D Space Tour – 3D Rendering of Saturn as Your Screensaver
If this application were offered free of charge, I could understand why computer users would get it and install it on their machines. But as things are right now, I doubt anyone would want to get this application. There are two reasons why this applications lets the user down.
Reason #1 – the images aren't that good. The screensaver displays a “true photo-realistic and astronomically accurate 3D-simulated orbital flight around the planet,” as the developer says. That may be so, but the simple truth of the matter is that the images of Saturn aren’t that good looking, which is a disappointment.
We’ve reviewed other FP Software Lab-developed screensavers and they all featured good looking imagery. Guess because those screensavers were version 1.1 while this one is version 1.0.
Reason #2 – the nag screen makes the trial version unbearable. In the unregistered version a floating window that tells you to register the screensaver appears and, well, floats around. It is truly annoying. I could have lived with a small registration reminder in a corner, or a registration reminder that appears every couple of minutes and then goes away, but this floating nag screen makes the screensaver unbearable. What’s even more unbearable is the fact that the developer asks close to $18 for this screensaver. I’m not sure how many people are willing to part with this kind of money to get Saturn 3D Space Tour.
On the upside, if you do decide to get Saturn 3D Space Tour, it will only take a moment to get the application off the web and onto your computer since the download weighs in at 1.4MB. Installing the application will take little time as well.
